I saw Deadpool and Wolverine

Maybe I am over Deadpool and the breaking the fourth wall jokes. I did not hate this film and I did finish it. That at least is something. The action was fine. It was nice to see Hugh Jackman as Wolverine again. I liked one of the two major villains.  As I said I feel over the breaking the fourth wall jokes or maybe some of those jokes were not that good this time around. Also the cherry or upbeat song being used for background music during a fight scene might have been done one time too often. I am keeping the plot details vague. I liked one of the two major villains but the other one I did not find interesting at all. Problem is that the villain I liked was the second villain.  I might not watch this again but I am keeping that option open. If this is better than Green Lantern, which I am sure of, it is not that much better. Maybe the Green Lantern film had a few issues but it is as bad as Reynolds has made it out to be.

First movie wins Totally Killer is better than Time Cut

Time Cut is not bad. It has the same basic plot as Totally Killer that came out last year. I think Totally Killer is better. I wonder if Time Cut came out first if I would have liked it better. I think being the second of two movies means Time Cut would need to win the battle of the films by knock-out. It doesn't. In this one a young woman goes back in time and gets a chance to save the sister she has never known. Performances are decent. There is a twist that if the woman, Lucy, saves her sister, Summer, Lucy might not be born. That is kind of interesting. I am not sure how the time travel rules worked in this film. At one point something happens that seemingly should change the future but apparently it doesn't. Then later something happened that did change the future; that seems inconsistent. I did not regret watching this but I might not watch it again. Not every movie is worth a rewatch. Totally Killer is better. If you have not seen it, I recommend it. Maybe the acting in

I did not finish Halloween Resurrection

I tried to re-watch this. I am fairly sure I saw this years ago. It is bad. It is not bad in comparison to Halloween H20. Resurrection is bad even if you have not seen H20. The movie centers around a web event at the Myers house. Micheal comes home and he starts killing the visitors. There are cameras in the house and sometimes the movie switches from the real events to the footage. I found that a bit distancing. There is a character watching this broadcast and I felt that also put a distance between me and the story/main plot.  Jamie Lee Curtis is in an opening scene and her character was apparently killed off. Curtis did not the ending of H20 being undone and was reportedly forced to make this film. Producers at the time claimed that Curtis loved the script (Curtis later denied it). This segment is better than the rest of the film. I quit before the viewer got more involved in the main plot. I might missed more of Buster Rhymes’ silly moments. I have heard he has a bunch. I did not

Woman of the Hour is decent, maybe more than decent

Anna Kendrick stars in this movie and directs it. It is based on a real life story about a serial killer on the dating game. Kendrick is good as always. Her character is a struggling actor who goes on the Dating Game to get seen. She has a friendly neighbor who might want be more than a friend.  The movie has flashbacks but not too many. I am anti-flashback but I think this movie worked with flashbacks.  It is interesting. I am not sure how true to life it is. Daniel Zovato plays the serial killer. (I know the ability to research people in the 70s was not what it is now but how did he pass a background check?) I don’t think I have seen him in anything. He can seem charming but can go to creepy quickly. The Dating Game scenes are fun.  Maybe some things here are fictionalized. I liked this section but I have some doubts the way this went down is true to life. This is not bad for a first time director. With her background, I would have expected her to make a romantic comedy.  It is not

Quick thoughts October 2024

If in a low budget action movie an actor playing an executive assistant looks like he can carry a truck, his character will be a villain and be in a fight scene. This is the rule.  If a horror series seems like it has reached a natural ending point but the last film made money, there will be a prequel.  Halloween IV is the second best Halloween. Halloween Resurrection might be the second worst from what I have heard. (I think I have seen it years ago but I plan to watch or re-watch it soon.) Halloween Curse of Michael Myers might be the worst Halloween film. (Am I ignoring Halloween Season of the Witch? Possibly.) The Blob remake is underappreciated. I am not sure why. It did not have a long afterlife on cable, so maybe people forget about it. I am not sure why but Russell Crowe’s character calling Tom Cruise’s character young man in the Mummy makes me smile.

The Killer’s Game

Dave Baustia stars as a hitman who gets told he is going to die from an incurable disease. This is at the same time as he is starting a romance with a ballet dancer played by Sophia Boutella. He puts a hit on himself. He gets a call from the doctor and is told he is not dying. He cannot call off the hit. I liked it. It was nice to see Marko Zaror and Daniel Bernhardt in supporting roles. Bernhardt is underappreciated. Terry Crews is on hand as another assassin and I  thought he was good. The action scenes are good.  Ben Kingsley has a supporting role. It was nice to see him. In one scene, his wife is offscreen and asks if their visitor knows what time it is. “Yes dear, he owns a watch” was Kingsley’s reply and that made me smile. I know Kingsley was put in the movie to add a touch of class and well, it worked. There is not too much humor. (Yeah, I know. I still complain about too much humor or comic relief from time to time.)

I don’t like the new Salem’s Lot

I did not finish the new Salem’s Lot. I don’t blame the actors. I think the writer/director made some bad choices. I don’t like how the film started. I think it was the wrong choice. Also there should have more mystery.  The novel is large and has a large cast of characters. Maybe some of the choices were made to ensure the movie was less than 2 hours long. The previous two live action adaptations were both TV mini-series and in hindsight that makes sense. Going back to the idea of mystery, maybe the writer/director felt that since this is a 3rd adaptation of the story that people already know the story. I think that was the wrong approach. Or maybe the writer/director was given a runtime he had to meet and decided to cut some mystery from the film. I am not sure if I will go back to finish the movie or re-watch it. Stephen King saw this and really liked it. His posting about film might have saved it from being destroyed for tax reasons. I don’t get what he saw in this film that I did
