What We Left Behind a Look Back at Star Trek Deep Space Nine is pretty good

The documentary about Star Trek Deep Space Nine is pretty good. It is made by people who worked on the show, so it is not neutral. I think it is critical of the show, especially the treatment of their LGBT characters. There is a bit of irony when people talk about the show having interesting/strong female characters. Maybe the show did but lead actress Terry Ferral left after feeling insulted and pressured by producers. She left after season six and all these years later it still bothers her. One of the major characters, Kira, was a former freedom fighter/terrorist. It depends on your perspective and the documentary suggests that if the show were made after 911. it would be harder to have such a character. Or at least it might be harder to sympathize with such a character. It is an interesting documentary but I wonder why Avery Brooks (Captain Sisko) was not in it. I think he should have been in it. Old interviews with him were used. I did like the writers breaking down the plo...

Early reviews of What We Left Behind are good

I have seen a few early reviews of What We Left Behind (the Star Trek Deep Space Nine documentary) and they are good. There are not a lot of reviews but all the reviews I seen have been positive. (If there is a negative review, I have missed it so far.) I still think it might be better to have someone unconnected to Star Trek Deep Space Nine make a documentary about it. Maybe someone unconnected to the show would be more honest about behind the scenes controversies, for example. One review says the documentary covers actress Terry Farrell leaving the show after season 6 in detail. I am a bit surprised that Avery Brooks was not interviewed for this project. He was the commander, and later Captain of the space station. I think he'd have some interesting insights to share. Maybe the documentary will mention why Brooks did not take part. I won’t be able to see the movie in theaters this Monday (it is not playing anywhere convenient to me and it is only playing for one night). I h...

Thoughts about What We Left Behind

There is a Star Trek Deep Space Nine documentary, What We Left Behind, coming out. I am interested in seeing but I wish it was made by someone more neutral. One of the co-directors is Ira Stephen Behr, who was the show runner of Deep Space nine. I think someone who was not involved in the creation of the show might have a more fair view of the show. Deep Space Nine was the successor to Star Trek the Next Generation and it was set on a space station. That was different, some people didn’t like that. It ran at roughly the same time as Babylon 5 which also set set on a space station. (There was a controversy over some similarities between the two shows). I still want want to see the documentary. The show seems to have gained popularity in recent years after it became available on some streaming platforms. I don’t think it was ever truly unpopular (it did last 7 seasons) but it was not as well liked as the Next Generation. It might be more popular than Enterprise.
