1st re-watch of the year Valley Girl (remake)

The Valley Girl remake is maybe a bit better on re-watch. It is not a classic but it has some nice moments.  The original is better. This stars Jessica Roth. The musical numbers were fun. Maybe they could have been better but I liked them. (There are a few that might be better than the rest.)Maybe the producers needed to bring in a few actors with backgrounds in musicals.  I think oddly enough the parents are the biggest change. The parents seemed more likable in the original. It could be my fondness for the original movie making me feel this. Julie’s parents are not awful in this but the parents in the original were very likable. I think maybe someone who hasn’t seen the original might enjoy this more than I did. This is a lot better than He’s All That, another remake.

the Valley Girl remake might be as bad as you've heard

I said in my podcast that I want to be a positive critic. I don't want to take cheap shots at films or make a bunch of snarky comments about a film. However that does not mean that I won't say if a film does not work or if it is just bad. If you heard this movie is bad, it is pretty bad. The movie has a framing device of a mom telling this story to her daughter that I don't think adds anything to the story, which makes me wonder why the producers kept it. Jessica Rothe stars as Julie in the remake of this classic 1980s romance. She is dating Mickey but seems to be losing interest or becoming disillusioned. (Mickey seems to be a jerk and possibly a bigger jerk than the boyfriend character in the original movie.)She meets Randy, who is not from the valley and they go out. She dumps Mickey but her friends don't like Randy. There is an incident and Julie and Randy break up. The basic plot is similar to the original but one subplot has changed.  The leading man is not te...

Valley Girl remake is supposed to come out digitally next week

Jessica Rothe's Valley Girl is supposed to come out next week.  The trailer is not great. It is not terrible though. I own both Happy Death Day movies and her movie Forever My Girl, so it is safe to say I am interested in her movies. (I am not sure why Tiffany Hadish was declared the next big thing a while back instead of Rothe.) I want to see this. Will it be good as the original? Probably not. The original is really good. It might be a classic. If Jessica Rothe and her leading man are good together on screen, that will probably be enough to make the movie worthwhile. I did not see enough of them together in the trailer, so I am nor sure if they will be good together.
