Star Wars seems to be moving to TV/Streaming

Star Wars as a franchise seems to be moving to TV/Streaming. Currently there are no Star Wars movies scheduled for release in the next few years. There is currently maybe one Star Wars film in development. It has been three years since the last Star Wars film.  Is this because the Star Wars shows are so successful? Is this because Solo did not make a lot of money?  (That seems to be a unique situation because of the extensive reshoots.) I think the fan backlash to the Last Jedi is somewhat overblown but maybe that could be a factor. Is making a Star Wars movie harder than making a Marvel movie? Are the stakes too high? Was the plan to have new Star Wars movies every year a bad plan or overly ambitious in hindsight?

I could be burned out on Star Wars

There was an announcement of a new Star Wars movie coming. It will be co-written by Tiki Witiki, best known to me for Thor Ragnarok (which I like less than other people do). I don’t hate the movie exactly but I wonder how much people finding Thor the Dark World a bit of a slog contributes to the feelings about Thor Ragnarok. I am not excited by this announcement. Maybe it has to do with my feelings towards Thor Ragnarok or my mixed feelings about the last Star Wars movie (which I am not sure if I will re-watch). Maybe it has to do with both sets of feelings. It could the fact the announcement is really vague that prevents me from being more excited. No actor was mentioned as being in the film and there no plot details revealed. There is not a lot to get attached to or excited about yet.

The Star Wars break will not be too long

Star Wars is taking a three year break. I thought it would be longer. Disney announced that new Star Wars movies will start arriving in 2022 and will come out every other year.  It was not announced if these films are going to be Rian Johnson’s trilogy or the Games of Thrones show runners’ trilogy. Okay, I guess expecting the series to take a longer break was misguided. Also I guess it was a bit misguided of me to think that there would not be news about the next Star Wars movies before the year ended. At one point I thought everything was on hold and maybe there might be news sometime next year. We will see how this develops. There could be more news after Episode IX hits home video. Or there could be more news sooner than that. Maybe this break will be a good thing. I do like the move to releasing a new movie every other year. The “failure” of Solo has really shaken things up. Solo made 392 million dollars worldwide but because of the reshoots, it cost a lot to make (rumor...

Week of conflicting Star Wars reports

It has been a week of conflicting Star Wars movies. One rumor/report is that Lucasfilms has put all stand alone Star Wars movies on hold because of the box office results of Solo. The rumors are that there were plans for at least two more stand alone movies.  Then Lucasfilms released a statement saying that previous report was inaccurate. I am not sure what is true. The site, Collider, that reported the stand alone movies being put on hold has a decent reputation from what I know. The site is not known for printing wild rumors. (There are sites, reportedly, that will print anything even if they know it is not true.) I would be okay with the stand alone movies ending. So would some other people from reactions I have seen online.
