Sean’s movie thoughts

The Predator is not terrible. It might not be good though and maybe this franchise can be put to bed for a long time, if not forever. Predators return to earth to do more hunting (and maybe something more). There is one Predator that is bigger and badder than the other. A sniper and a team of escaped soldiers with emotional problems fight them. A scientist gets involved, and the sniper’s son has autism but he can figure out alien technology. (Some people did not like that plot point if I remember correctly.) Some of the soldiers are kind of interesting. Olivia Mann does come across like a scientist. I just don’t feel like there is anything else to explore with this monster. The ending cries out for a sequel but a lot of movies do that nowadays. There was a scene removed from the film because the male actor/extra was a convicted sex offender and the director did not inform anyone on the set. Peppermint is getting bad reviews. Maybe Jennifer Garner will get a better action movie later or even a better movie in another genre. From the reviews I’ve seen she is not the problem with the movie. She was good in Daredevil and Elektra. I have not seen any of the Conjuring movies or their spin-offs. That expanded universe keeps on growing. I have heard good things about some of the films. The latest spin-off is the Nun. Maybe I will check out one of the films in this franchise some say. There is something missing in the story about the actor whose scene was removed from the Predator movie because he is on a sex offender list. Olivia Mun found out and told Fox executives but how did she find out? That detail seems to be missing. Shane Black knew and the actor was his friend. Now Black is claiming that his friend misled him.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Thor is not the Thor I grew up reading about in Marvel comics. In some ways they are the same character but there are differences. MCU Thor is more jokey and less regal than the comic book Thor. This is okay and it is similar to how the Batman from the 1980s comics is different than the Batman from the current comics or current movies. I am not sure about the new Predator movie. I guess it could be good but I am not expecting too much. Maybe it will be a surprise. I never saw Predators or if I did it made no impact on me, so maybe it is time again to see the Predator on the big screen. Joel Mchale is in the naughty puppet movie, the Happytime Murders. It looks bad or desperate or both. (Maybe both.) Maybe it is not as bad as it looks. Maybe I will wake up tomorrow being able to sing like Josh Groban and draw like John Romita jr. I wish McHale had a better movie career, he is a talented guy. Oh well, he will probably be back on tv soon.
