John Wick Chapter 4 is good but might have been better if it were shorter

The new John Wick movie is too long. It is still good but I think the third act is too long. I am not sure about the second act but I definitely think the third act is too long. John Wick wants to settle his differences with the High Table. The High Table has empowered a dude to kill John and that dude recruits an old friend of John’s to kill him. (I guess there are limits to friendship in the Wick verse.) Lawrence Fishbourne pops up to give plot details from time to time but it is good to see him. Clancy Brown is on hand to lend gravitas to the film. It is nice to see Donnie Yen, Marko Zaror, and Scott Adkins in this film. I don’t like the fact Adkins was in a fat suit but it was a good fat suit at least. Yen should be a bigger star in America. So should Zaror. The movie needed more Lance Reddick, maybe that it is a reaction to his death after the movie was filmed. I don't know if he had another project completed after this, so maybe this is not his last performance.  He add...

Street Kings is not terrible

Keanu Reeves stars as a LA cop in this movie. He is effective but he leaves a lot of bodies in his wake. He could have made more of an effort to take some suspects in alive. Some, if not most, of the people he kills in the line of duty are people of color. Internal Affairs is looking into him. His ex-partner is killed in a shoot out/robbery in a liquor store but things might be more complicated than they look. I cannot believe I have never seen this before now. Reeves is really good in this movie, I don’t think I him play such an anti-hero. He beats someone with a phone book. (I don’t think I have seen that in a movie in a while.) Chris Evans is on hand as a cop who gets pulled into Reeve’s investigation. He is less jaded or dirty than Reeves. This movie came out in 2008 but I don’t think it was set in 2007. The original screenplay was written in the 1990s according to Wikipedia and there is a reference to Rodney King. There are no other real clues that I can point out. I liked t...

John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum thoughts

John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum is good. The fight scenes are good, you can actually see what the heck is happening, it is not a bunch of quick cuts. Keanu Reeves returns as John Wick and the movie opens right where the last movie ended. The story holding all the action sequences together could have been better. At a certain point some of this mythology or world building borders on ridiculous. Where is the money for all these killers coming from? There are a lot of professional killers and then there is the High Table and it’s clerical staff. Are there enough people hiring assassins to support all this? I think William Bibbanni said something similar after Chapter Two, so I am not claiming this as an original thought. I guess we are supposed to just go with it. It was nice to see Mark Dacascos as a villain. (It might be time to re-watch American Samurai again.) It was also nice to see Halle Berry and Anjelica Huston in supporting roles.  Berry’s role is not as big as trailers mi...
