Second Chance Film Festival Summer Night re-watched

The Second Chance Film Festival continues. Summer Night is a likable movie. It might not be that good but it is likable. This is about a bunch of friends in a small town in California and what they are doing on a day and night. Some of these friends are in a band. Some of these friends are dating each other or want to date each other or have dated each other (I think that covers everything). The actors are good, even the ones I don’t recognize from other projects (which is a large part of the cast). Lana Condor seemed to have a larger role in this from the trailer than she really did but it was nice to see her. I would have liked to see more time with her and would be boyfriend Jack/Rabbit. Victoria Justice is likable in this movie, she plays Harmony and she is on a date with Jameson. It might be a first date. There are some band performances in the movie but maybe there’s one too many.  I like band performances in movies as much as anyone and the songs are good. There is a lot...

Thoughts about Summer Night (updated)

I expected more Lana Condor than this movie delivered.  She plays Lexi and she is likable but I thought she would have a larger part in this movie. I might have liked this film more if she did. Maybe I need to re-watch the trailer to see if the trailer promised more Lana Condor than the film delivered. This film is about a bunch of twenty something friends in a small town in California. There is not really a strong plot or central storyline. Some of the friends are dating or have dated or want to date. There is an African American friend named Luke who only gives advice, which is weird in 2019. (This is not to say I disliked Luke or his actor.) The cast is pretty good. Victoria Justice has a role. Analeigh Tipton also has a role. It was nice to see her again, it has been a while.  (She had a short lived TV show a few years ago.) Justin Chatwhin has a role. I am not sure where I have have seen him before this but I think I have seen him somewhere.  I don’t regr...

Movie thoughts 9-01-2018

It was nice to see the first Harry Potter movie on the big screen. Cinemas are showing the Harry Potter movies for a limited time in honor of the 20th anniversary of the first book. I might go to another one of the films. I saw the House on Haunted Hill remake from 1999. It is okay and Geoffrey Rush did a nice impersonation of Vincent Price. The original is better but the remake has a few charms. I wouldn’t watch them as a double feature though. Lana Condor should have gotten more to do as Julibee in X-Men Apocalypse.  It is clear after seeing her in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. I like the remake of the Blob more than the original. I think the remake is just better in a few ways and I like Kevin Dillion (when he is not in Entourage). (This is not the time or place to rip Entourage but I would be willing to rip it at the right time or the right place.) I don’t want a Star Trek movie without Chris Pine. I might get one if rumors are to be believed. I don’t blame Pine f...

Thoughts on watching To All The Boys I Loved Before

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, a Netflix movie, is based on a novel by Jenny Han. Lana Condor stars as Laura Jean, a girl who wrote letters to her crushes but never intended to send them. One day the letters get out. Then she starts a fake relationship with Peter, one of her crushes. Lana Condor is really good in this movie. It would be nice to see her play this character again (Han wrote two other sequels to the novel this movie is based on). Noah Centineo plays Peter and he is good too. Israel Broussard has a supporting role and Laura’s father is played by John Corbett. Maybe the plot is predictable but aren’t all romantic comedies kind of predictable? Also the plot moves at a good pace and the characters are likable. It is nice to see a romantic comedy again after Set It Up. Maybe Netflix will be the home of the genre.  Maybe Han’s other novels might come to Netflix.
