Black Widow thoughts

I saw Black Widow. It is not great but it has some nice moments. Yeah, they changed one villain from the comics but that happens. Also the villain is  not a classic villain like Dr. Doom.  I think David Harbour is better here than he was in Hellboy. (He was not bad in that, to be fair.) I thought Florence Pough was good as the younger Black Widow Yelena. It would be nice to see either one (or both) in future Marvel movies or tv shows.  It felt a little long. I do like a shorter movie, so that might just be my feeling. The main villain is not that impressive and if he never reappears, that might be just as well.  I can understand not like this film not if you really think think this is awful, you have not seen an awful movie. (One YouTube critic who says movies are too woke, said this movie was awful. I am not sure at times if he really believes what he’s saying or if is he selling out to get an audience.)

Movie thoughts July 17th

I liked the Fear Street trilogy. Maybe it is not a classic trilogy but it was fun. I might like the first one best but the other two are good too. Going back to 1666 to discover the origin of the curse was interesting. Did the first two movies overuse pop music? Maybe but that is not the worst thing in the cinematic world. Space Jam A New Legacy got some really bad reviews. I wonder if it is a much of a cash grab as some reviews suggest.  I might take a look. If it is as bad as reviews suggest, I should figure it out within thirty minutes or less. Mark’s Zaror is going to be in the next John Wick. That could be fun. I have seen him in one of the Undisputed movies.

Movie Thoughts July 9th

Sadie Sink is good in the new Fear Street 1978 but it is not too different a role than her role in Stranger Things. Maybe her next role will be a bit different. Fear Street 1978 is good but maybe Fear Street 1994 was a bit better. I am not sure I really noticed a difference in the new print of Battle Beyond the Stars. (There is a new Blu-ray.) Oh well, it is nice the company made a new edition.  It is also possible that my older edition is lost or missing or loaned out but on a positive note,I found three movies I thought were lost in the last week or so. The Tomorrow War is getting a sequel. It seemed like the movie resolved everything, so I am not sure what a sequel will involve.  I thought the “slowed down and sad” cover version of a song for a movie thing was done. I guess not (a new movie has one.) I am not against cover songs on principle.

Some movie thoughts for July 2021

Scott Adkins and Donnie Yen are reported to be in the next John Wick movie. That could be nice. They don't even have to fight each other. Maybe Daniel Bernhardt can come back as a relative of his character from the 1st film.  I have never seen any of the Purge movies or the related TV series.  I have no interest in them. I am not sure why I have no in interest in the concept. The latest one is the Forever Purge and it is set in Texas (of course it is).  There is an animated movie called America the Motion Picture. I think it is a comedy but I did not get it. I did not finish it and I don't think I will go back to finish it. (Update: I, so far, did not go back to finish it.)

The Tomorrow War was decent

Chris Pratt’s new movie is decent. People are being taken to 2051 to fight aliens. (This explains the title.) Things are going badly in 2051. Pratt’s character is a science teacher and a veteran.  He is also a father and  husband. This might not be the best use of Pratt’s talents. (He was an executive producer, so that seems odd.) He is not bad exactly but maybe someone else would have been better. The supporting cast is good but I am not sure about J. K. Simmons as Chris Pratt’s dad. (Hollywood genetics don’t make sense at times.)  The aliens have no personality and don’t speak. That is kind of a bummer. The time travel rules seem really strange at first. The movie is a bit long. This movie received some harsh criticism. I wonder if I might have been too generous to this film.  Maybe if I re-watch this, I will post about it again.
