Upgrade looks interesting

Upgrade looks interesting. It is set in the near future and a man gets a computer chip to help him walk again after he was paralyzed. The attack that left him paralyzed also killed his wife. The chip, STEM, allows the man to do more than walk. He goes out looking for revenge. Previews have looked good. Some reviews have been good. I don’t recognize the lead actor and this comes from a writer of Saw and Insidious but I not a fan of either series. However the good trailers and reviews outweigh concerns about the actor and writer or director. If you want to see a review, here is  one by William Bibbiani  and I think it is well written.

Thoughts on Solo

Solo a Star Wars story is a not a terrible movie. It is not the worst movie I have seen in theaters in the last few years but I might not want to see it again. For a Star Wars movie that is a bit of a surprise. I thought the performances were good. Donald Glover was good as the young Lando. I like Woody Harrelson and I think Emilia Clarke was better than she was in the last Terminator film. Alden Ehrenreich was fine as Han Solo, I think he got better as the movie progressed. I liked Chewbecca too. I don’t think the movie was compelling. There were a couple of plot points that were supposed to come off as more surprising than they did. I thought some of the dialogue was clunky and maybe the heist aspect would have seemed more unique if Rogue One hadn’t happened.  Maybe some stories are better left untold. Perhaps it is time for Star Wars to look to the future. Maybe the next stand alone film, if there is one, should be set after Episode IX and have no characters we already now.
