Blood Fest is decent

Yes, I own movies called Blood Fest and Hell Fest. Hell Fest might be a little better but I think both are enjoyable. Blood Fest is more comedic. Blood Fest is decent, maybe a bit more. The actors are good, and the premise is interesting. There are some nice moments. Blood Fest is a festival for horror fans. However the festival has a secret, the head of the festival wants to kill the guests and film it as a horror movie. The various areas of the park ground suggest film franchises like Saw and Friday the 13th. The hero, who saw his mother murdered by a man wearing a horror movie villain costume, is attending the festival with two friends. I think however, there are not quite enough good moments to make this more than decent. Maybe the presence of an actor like Tony Todd or Robert Englund could have helped a bit.

Bloodshot is not terrible

Bloodshot is not terrible. Vin Diesel stars as a soldier, Ray, resurrected and given super powers. He is never called Bloodshot in the film and he lacks the special look of the comic book hero. Maybe they tried the look and thought it might not work or come across well in live action. Guy Pierce stars as the head of the company that brought Diesel back. It is nice to see him. Diesel might not be a great actor but he fills this role well. Eiza Gonzalez needed a bit more to do but the supporting cast is pretty good. The action sequences are fine and I liked the use of Ray’s non-physical powers. Maybe I am being a bit generous but I might watch this again.

April Fool’s Day was fun

April Fools Day was fun. Deborah Foreman stared as Muffy, a young woman who invites a group of her friends to her island home for a weekend. Thomas F. Wilson, best known as Biff from Back to the Future, co-starred. (I last saw him in Legends of Tomorrow but it is odd to see him in a movie from before Back to the Future.) This is interesting. I have not seen this in years, it holds up pretty well. Performances are good, and the tone is more comedic than say Friday the 13th. The movie is set on April Fool’s Day and there are some pranks. Things take a darker turn later. This is not a classic but it is enjoyable. https://bloody-disgusting.com/editorials/3385168/remembering-april-fools-day-slasher/ This is a good review. It spoils the 3rd act but this film is over 30 years old, so you might have heard about it already.

21 Bridges is okay

21 Bridges is okay, not great. Chadwick Boseman stars as a cop with a reputation for killing criminals. Indeed early in the film he is being talked to by internal affairs after using his gun on the job. One night he is brought in to track some cop killers. Boseman is good. He is probably the major draw of this film. It is nice to have J. K. Simmons on hand in a supporting role. This is not special. It is not bad or at least not terrible and I don’t regret seeing it.  Perhaps I might not watch it again. If Boseman makes another cop thriller, I would be willing to see it.

Steve James had a solo movie

Actor Steve James had his own movie. He is best known for his films with Micheal Dudikoff (American Ninja, American Ninja 2, and Avenging Force). Those films were fun. James was likeable, the American Ninja movie without him was missing something. He was also in comedies like Hollywood Shuffle and I’m Gonna Git You Sucka. This movie is maybe on the same level as Action Jackson. I liked Action Jackson. James stared as a former cop turned bounty hunter named Logan Blade in Street Hunter. I only heard about this film recently and I bought it. (I am surprised I did not know about this 1990 film.) If you like Steve James, it is nice to see him as the lead. He has a dog, and a girlfriend. Blade has been thrown off the force but he doesn’t seem to want to rejoin the force. Reb Brown and John Leguizamo are on hand as the villains and they are at war with Italian gangsters. https://www.bulletproofaction.com/2020/02/19/bullet-points-street-hunter/  Go there if you want to read more abou...

No Time to Die has been pushed back and other movie thoughts

No Time to Die has been pushed back to November. The explanation for the move seemed vague. I guess there will be more months of speculation on who’s replacing Daniel Craig as Bond. He is supposed to leave, really this time, but the franchise will go on. Jumanji the Next Level held up on re-watch. Some films don’t.  I feel like the film makers have done everything they can with this concept and there is nowhere left to go. I could be wrong but it really seems like everything worth exploring about the concept has been explored. The young cast does not have enough time together but I guess that is a byproduct of the concept. Suerman Red Son was a good animated Superman movie. It was not great but it is worth watching and I think it will hold on re-watching. This does not tie in with a lot of the other DC animated movies, so it could be a good starting point for someone. Superman lands in Russia and is raised there. I think Star Trek is dead on the big screen for now.
