This is the Year is decent

This is the Year is from a first time director (David Henrie) and the movie has a familiar plot. Josh (played by Lorenzo James Henrie) lies to a girl named Zoey that he likes that he has tickets to a concert. He, Zoey, his best friend Mikey, Mikey’s brother Donny, and his female best friend Molly go off to the concert. There are some adventures along the way.  The film likes most of its characters, except maybe for Zoey’s boyfriend. He is not a jerk exactly but he is kind of self absorbed and pretentious. Zoey is likable throughout the movie and she has some nice moments with Molly. (In a 1980s movie, these two would not be friends.) Henrie is best known for his role on Wizards of Waverly Place and his role on How I Met Your Mother. This is good for a first movie. The performances are good. Maybe a conflict is resolved a bit too easily but I think the movie is worth seeing. Is this movie too chaste? It might be but not every teen movie needs to be American Pie. If the makers of the...

Movie thoughts 10-16-21

I re-watched the Spanish language version of Dracula. It is interesting. The story of how the film was made is probably more interesting but I found it enjoyable on re-watch.  If the lead actor had Lugosi’s appeal, this would be a classic I think. I not that interested in Halloween Kills. Maybe the reviews have made me hesitant. Some reviews are bad. There are currently 12 Halloween movies and I have seen 9. The only interesting thing about the film might be now is the story that a fireman objected to Michael Myers killing a bunch of firemen in the movie.  I want at least a TV movie about the Dwayne Johnson/Vin Diesel dust up or feud or whatever. I thought it was settled but Johnson brought it up again in a Vanity Fair article.  I want to know what happened. At least Vin Diesel seems to moved on.

Escape Room Tournament of Champions extended edition is reportedly really different from the theatrical version. That might be the most interesting about the movie. It is not as much as fun as the first one. I am not sure why though. Victor Miller won his copyright termination suit in the Friday the 13th case. That case seemed to last for a long time. Good for him. I wonder if there will be progress on a new movie soon.  Okay Scarlet Johansson settled her lawsuit with Disney. I thought that might happen. I did not see the company wanting contract examined in court.  There are talks of a Teen Wolf revival movie (well, TV or streaming movie).
