Sean’s movie thoughts

The fourth film of the rebooted Star Trek series is not  on Paramount’s schedule. The director has left the project. That is disappointing. I would like to see that cast back together.  Overall, I liked the rebooted Star Trek movies Okay maybe the second movie is pretty much a remake of Wrath of Khan. There were a few moments in the second movie that were felt odd. I thought the third movie was a bit better. I thought the third movie did a better job of using the bridge crew.  Would it be nice to have more movies with this cast (Chris Pine, Karl Urban, John Cho, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, and Zachary Quinto)? I think it would have been. It is possible that what is left of this cast is not returning for a fourth film.

 Star Wars as a franchise seems to be moving to TV/Streaming. Currently there are no Star Wars movies scheduled for release in the next few years. There is currently maybe one Star Wars film in development. It has been three years since the last Star Wars film.  Is this because the Star Wars shows are so successful? Is this because Solo did not make a lot of money?  (That seems to be a unique situation because of the extensive reshoots.) I think the fan backlash to the Last Jedi is somewhat overblown but maybe that could be a factor. Is making a Star Wars movie harder than making a Marvel movie? Are the stakes too high? Was the plan to have new Star Wars movies every year a bad plan or overly ambitious in hindsight?

I was emailing a friend and I said there might be too many superhero movies. I looked at my digital collection of movies and it includes a lot of superhero movies. I have an animated superhero movie on pre-order. So maybe someone else should be complaining about too many superhero movies. However I thought Morbius was a 2 star movie (even being generous), I tried watching the new Thor movie twice and lost interest both times.  I don’t know if I will give it a third chance. The Black Adam movie looks decent at best. (That might because for as big a star as Dwayne Johnson is a lot of his movies are average.) To be fair I did like the second Dr Strange movie and Spider-man No Way Home. Maybe I need to seek out some comedies or dramas or non-superhero action movies for a while. Yeah, I know some superhero movies are partially comedic. 

 Morbius is not as bad as its reputation. That might not be saying a lot though. It has a bad reputation. (I wonder if some critics have not seen as many bad movies as I have seen.) A critic I like to read gave the movie a 2 star review and that seems fair. I did not finish the film, so I cannot say too much about the film. I never got invested. I did not hate it but I got to a point where I decided not to continue. I don’t hate Jared Leto as an actor. I did go back and finish the last Jurassic World movie, so that suggests it is better than Morbius.  Oh well, some movies are average or below average.

 I started the latest Jurassic World movie. I am not sure I am going to finish it. For a movie with a lot going on plot wise, it seems kind of average. I am not sure why this movie needs an evil corporation.  It feels like there should be more awe than there is in the film. Dinosaurs are loose in the world, that should be awesome or awe inspiring. Somehow it is not a lot of the time.  This is not the worst movie I have seen recently and I did not hate it. (I might have overspent on it.) It is nice to see Campbell Scott but that might be the nicest thing to say about the movie. I watched the regular edition of the film. I am not interested in the extended edition. Maybe it is better but I guess I will never know.
