The X-men movies started in another era and kind of remained there

The X-men movies are from another age or era of film making and in a way remained there. I am just talking about the main films here. The X-men series started in 2000 and preceded the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The first X-men film revolves around the relationship between Charles Xavier and Magneto and their philosophical differences. The first three films are about that to a large extent with Magneto either fighting the X-men or working with them against a greater threat. The next three films also revolve around that relationship, some to a greater extent than others. Mystique was added to this dynamic in the second series of films.

I am not saying the Magneto and Xavier dynamic is a bad dynamic but maybe it should not be used for every film. Maybe when the series was revived with First Class, a new dynamic should have been found or maybe at least one film could have excluded Magneto. (The X-men fight other people.)

There was also no long term planing in this franchise. It seems like they made one film and then made the next film but one film would contradict another. For example X-men Apocalypse hints that Jean has her Phoenix powers but she gains them in Dark Phoenix. Maybe the Marvel movies have their faults but at least there are plans.

I think if there was better planning, the writers and director  would have known they wanted to make Dark Phoenix after Apocalypse. Maybe they would have realized that we need to get to know Jean better before doing the Dark Phoenix. Perhaps if they realized this, they would have cut the Wolverine cameo from the film and spend more time with Jean and Scott.
