Instant Family is pretty good

This is based on a true story. It is inspired by the real life expirence of Director Sean Anders and his his wife.

Rose Byrne and Mark Wahlberg Star as Ellie and Pete, a couple who flip houses for a living who go through the foster care system to adopt three children, one teenager and two pre-teens. It is not easy, many of the children in the foster care system have had hard lives.

Byrne and Wahlberg are good as the married couple. I don’t think I have seen Byrne give a bad performance.  This might be the best movie Wahlberg has made in five years at least. This is a comedy, there are some laughs but the movie doesn’t romanticize the process of being foster parents. There are challenges and there are times when the couple thinks maybe they made a mistake.

I did not like all the plot points but I still liked the movie overall.  Octavia Spenser and Tig Notaro  are the agents working for the foster care system. That is good. I like it when a movie gets a really good actor for a supporting role.

I enjoyed it and I think it is worth re-watching.

I lost interest in the Girl in the Spider’s Web

I am not saying this is a terrible movie. I just lost interest and I think I had 40 or maybe 50 minutes left to watch. I might try it to watch it again in a month or so. Or I might not. Claire Foy plays Lisabeth Salandar, the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, in this movie. She is the third actress to take the role and she is good in it. The problems with the film don’t include her. This movie bombed but it doesn’t seem like it hurt Foy’s career. I am not sure why I lost interest. I thought there was a car chase that went on too long. I’ve seen a lot of car chases over the years but it feels like I have not seen a really good one in a while. This feels like it wants to be a female James Bond or female Jason Bourne movie. It is fairly humorless. Except for Foy’s performance, there is not much to recommend this film. I am not recommending this movie. Thoughts about the Short History of the Long Road

I liked this film. Sabrina Carpenter stars as Nola, a teenage girl living in a van and traveling America after her father’s death. They were on the road together when he suddenly died.  I think they have been on the road since her early childhood. Nola has to figure out what she does next. I won’t go into the plot details but I will say that the movie is mostly optimistic. Nola meets mostly nice people during her time on the road including Danny Trejo as an auto repair shop owner. Nola does meet her mother (okay, I spoiled the part of the plot). While the film is sometimes sad, I don’t think the move was grim or depressing. Nola’s dad might have romanticized their life on the road. Nola did not, she sees that it has some drawbacks, and I don’t the film does either. The life looks a bit lonely. There might not be a Star Trek 4

The fourth film of the rebooted Star Trek series is not  on Paramount’s schedule. The director has left the project. That is disappointing. I would like to see that cast back together.  Overall, I liked the rebooted Star Trek movies Okay maybe the second movie is pretty much a remake of Wrath of Khan. There were a few moments in the second movie that were felt odd. I thought the third movie was a bit better. I thought the third movie did a better job of using the bridge crew.  Would it be nice to have more movies with this cast (Chris Pine, Karl Urban, John Cho, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, and Zachary Quinto)? I think it would have been. It is possible that what is left of this cast is not returning for a fourth film.
