Quick thoughts October 2024

 If in a low budget action movie an actor playing an executive assistant looks like he can carry a truck, his character will be a villain and be in a fight scene. This is the rule. 

If a horror series seems like it has reached a natural ending point but the last film made money, there will be a prequel. 

Halloween IV is the second best Halloween. Halloween Resurrection might be the second worst from what I have heard. (I think I have seen it years ago but I plan to watch or re-watch it soon.) Halloween Curse of Michael Myers might be the worst Halloween film. (Am I ignoring Halloween Season of the Witch? Possibly.)

The Blob remake is underappreciated. I am not sure why. It did not have a long afterlife on cable, so maybe people forget about it.

I am not sure why but Russell Crowe’s character calling Tom Cruise’s character young man in the Mummy makes me smile.

There might not be a Star Trek 4

The fourth film of the rebooted Star Trek series is not  on Paramount’s schedule. The director has left the project. That is disappointing. I would like to see that cast back together.  Overall, I liked the rebooted Star Trek movies Okay maybe the second movie is pretty much a remake of Wrath of Khan. There were a few moments in the second movie that were felt odd. I thought the third movie was a bit better. I thought the third movie did a better job of using the bridge crew.  Would it be nice to have more movies with this cast (Chris Pine, Karl Urban, John Cho, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, and Zachary Quinto)? I think it would have been. It is possible that what is left of this cast is not returning for a fourth film.

Class Act was fun

 Kid and Play star in this comedy. Kid plays Duncan Pinderhughes, a genius. Play stars as Blade Brown, a delinquent. Their identities get confused and they decide, well Blade decides, to keep the situation going. (How their identities get confused is not worth explaining.) This is kind of like the Prince and the Pauper movie except the guys don’t look alike. There are young women to romance and a bully to deal with. Some of these scenes are fun. There are also fashion lessons and dialogue lessons for Duncan. These scenes are also fun. Duncan’s parents start to suspect that he is gay and later are happy that he is not. (This is not mean spirited but maybe it would not be done in a film made today.) It was worth seeing again. Maybe the original House Party movie is better.

I lost interest in the Girl in the Spider’s Web

I am not saying this is a terrible movie. I just lost interest and I think I had 40 or maybe 50 minutes left to watch. I might try it to watch it again in a month or so. Or I might not. Claire Foy plays Lisabeth Salandar, the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, in this movie. She is the third actress to take the role and she is good in it. The problems with the film don’t include her. This movie bombed but it doesn’t seem like it hurt Foy’s career. I am not sure why I lost interest. I thought there was a car chase that went on too long. I’ve seen a lot of car chases over the years but it feels like I have not seen a really good one in a while. This feels like it wants to be a female James Bond or female Jason Bourne movie. It is fairly humorless. Except for Foy’s performance, there is not much to recommend this film. I am not recommending this movie. If I re-watch it and revise my opinion, I will write a new blog posting,
