Sean’s movie thoughts

 Blade of the 47 Ronin (just called Blade from now on) is a sequel (direct to video sequel) to the 47 Ronin. (If I have seen that, it has been a long time.)  I liked Blade. It has Mark Dacascos in a supporting role, it is always nice to see him. (I own his first movie.) This is set in the modern day and a descendant of the 47 Ronin is looking for a magical sword. Blade has a lot of sword fights, I like sword fights in movies. Maybe no single sword fight in this film is amazing but they were all good. It has some fun training sequences and it is under 2 hours.  (Yeah, I keep mentioning that I like the occasional shorter movie.)  Is it great? No but I knew it would probably would not be great before I watched it. I managed expectations.  Will I watch this film again? Maybe.

Black Adam is decent, maybe more than decent. I liked seeing the JSA in the film. Maybe there could have been more time spent with them. I would like to see them return in some other project. It seems weird that Shazam (Billy Batson) is not involved or maybe even mentioned in this film.  I like Top Gun Maverick but so many people and critics seem to love it. Am I missing something? I will probably watch it again. The new Dreamworks animation logo is a bit much. Sometimes less is more. This might be a good case of fixing something that was not broken. I guess the new logo is not awful but there was a simplicity to the old one. I might do another re-watched film festival next year. Maybe I will pick 3 movies from 2017 and 2018 to re-watch (but no Star Wars or Marvel movies). 

Accident Man Hitman’s Holiday is the sequel to the movie Accident Man. Accident Man was about an assassin who made his kills look like accidents.  (This is a good idea. There is a novel series with this concept.)  I think I liked the original Accident Man a bit more than the sequel. I might have to re-watch the original. I wish Salem’s Lot was coming out this year.  Maybe since I don’t go to theaters anymore I would not see it until next year anyway, I am just curious about the reviews. It is my favorite Stephen King novel (I admit I have might have read only four or five of his novels) and I enjoyed both TV adaptations. (I have an interest in King’s work and the adaptions to TV and movies.) I have good things about Section 8, a direct to video action thriller. I might pick it up on Blu-ray. I think Black Site, another direct to video action movie, is supposed to be good. Maybe next month I will pick it up and Section 8.  

I liked Accident Man Hitman’s Holiday but maybe less than I expected. However, I think I will re-watch it at some point. I am still interested seeing in Scott Adkins’ next movie.  I wonder if I will ever watch the last two Halloween movies. I feel like I should be interested in these films but I am not. Maybe one day I will give Halloween Kills another chance. My favorite Halloween movie, besides the original, might be Halloween 4.  The last two DC animated movies have been fun but not great. I would like sequels to both. I was watching Kickboxer 4. I liked it. There are seven Kickboxer movies and I own 5. I have watched one of the two I don’t own.   

I liked Werewolf by Night. It was fun and not too long. (Maybe at under an hour, it really might not be a movie.) It looked good in black and white.This feels more a Universal Monsters film than anything Universal has produced in ages.  I feel I should be more interested in Black Adam. Maybe the film will be good but I have a feeling that it might only be average or slightly above average. Reports are that Henry Cavill will have a cameo as Superman. That could be nice. I have almost no interest in Halloween Ends. Right now, I think I will check out some reviews but probably won’t watch the film. I don’t think I ever finished Halloween Kills. Maybe I am losing interest in this franchise.  

There is a new movie adaption of the Munsters. The Munsters was a sitcom about a family who were monsters living in the suburbs. There might be some similarities to the Adams Family.  A lot of reviews suggest the film is terrible. I am not saying the film is good but terrible might be a stretch. I have seen some really terrible or awful movies that I don’t call films terrible or awful lightly. Rob Zombie wrote and directed this movie. I am not a fan of his work but I only have seen his Halloween movies. Those are bad films. (No, Rob Zombie’s Halloween is not the worst movie in that franchise.) Comedy might not be Zombie’s strength. I did not finish this film, so I cannot do a full review. I did not get invested in the story. I think I gave the film fifteen or twenty minutes. This film is on Netflix, so if you feel curious give it a shot.

The fourth film of the rebooted Star Trek series is not  on Paramount’s schedule. The director has left the project. That is disappointing. I would like to see that cast back together.  Overall, I liked the rebooted Star Trek movies Okay maybe the second movie is pretty much a remake of Wrath of Khan. There were a few moments in the second movie that were felt odd. I thought the third movie was a bit better. I thought the third movie did a better job of using the bridge crew.  Would it be nice to have more movies with this cast (Chris Pine, Karl Urban, John Cho, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, and Zachary Quinto)? I think it would have been. It is possible that what is left of this cast is not returning for a fourth film.
