Legacy of Lies is good but a step down from Debt Collectors

Legacy of Lies is good but a step down from Debt Collectors. Scott Adkins stars as a former MI-6 agent. (He doesn't have to use his American accent.) Russian thugs kidnap his daughter, who is 12 or 13, and force him to get some information and to either kill a journalist or turn the journalist over to them. Things get more complicated because he starts to like the journalist. Adkins is good. He gets some nice character moments and is getting better in the non- action scenes.  The relationship with his daughter came across well and the actress was good. The actress playing the journalist was likeable. The fight scenes are good. There are not a lot of them though and there might be more gun battles than hand to hand fights. In one of the fights it looked like Adkins used a mixed martial arts move. Is this worth buying? I am not sure. I think it is worth a digital rental or checking it out if it gets to Netflix. I bought it but I am a fan.

the Grease Prequel Summer Lovin' is still possible

Director Brett Haley signed on to Summer Lovin', the Grease prequel. Perhaps the movie could happen. This will cover Dany and Sandy's summer romance before Grease. Summer Nights, the song in Grease, covered this already and I never felt the need to know more. Haley directed Hearts Beat Loud, which has a good reputation. I guess this could be good. Cobra Kai, the sequel series to the Karate Kid films, did not sound that interesting when I first heard about it. The show is pretty good. Creed, for another example, might have seemed less than promising when it was announced. There are no stars attached yet. Maybe once stars sign on, the project will seem more exciting. This sounds more, at least right now, more like a cash grab than someone having an idea or becoming inspired. More news about this project to come perhaps.

Top 5 Scott Adkins movies

This is a list of the top 5 Scott Adkins movies. These are movies staring him, not movies where he has a supporting role like American Assassin or Doctor Strange. In a year or so I reserve the option to update the list. I kept the list to a top five, there are no ties. the Debt Collector Eliminators Avengement Accident Man Hard Target 2 I have not seen any of the Undisputed movies yet. So it is possible when I do a new edition of this list, it might include at least one movie from that series.

Enter the Fat Dragon was fun

Donnie Yen returns in Enter the Fat Dragon. He plays a cop who gets injured and then moves to the records room/evidence room. He gets depressed and starts to overeat. His girlfriend has left him. He gains weight but he can still fight. He has to go to Japan to hand over a criminal to the Japanese police but the criminal escapes. Our hero leaps into action but the Japanese cops seem less than helpful. (This is a Chinese film.) It was fun. I suspect that Yen wore a fat suit, I don’t think he put on the weight for the role. (I don't think he had the time.)I liked seeing how agile he was at a larger size. This is not great. I think maybe a top henchman would have helped.  I did like the film using clips from a few of Yen’s other films. This is not a remake of the movie of the same name from the 1970s.

Movie thoughts 7-12-2020

Halloween Kills was pushed back until next year but apparently the Candyman remake (or sequel) is still coming out. Maybe that will change as October approaches. I am more interested in Candyman than I am in Halloween Kills. Who is replacing Tony Todd as the Candyman? He was really good in the role. Andy Sandberg has a new movie, Palm Springs, on Hulu. I have heard good things about it and it is nice to see Christina Miloti again. I tried to watch it but I lost interest after less than thirty minutes. I am not sure if I am going to try to watch it again. Alain Moussi's next Kickboxer movie is subtitled Armageddon. I am not sure why but that is kind of funny. Moussi's a stunt man (and stunt coordinator) as well as an actor, so he keeps busy. I have enjoyed his Kickboxer movies. I still have not re-watched the Legend of Zorro. Is it really as bad as its reputation suggests?  If I have  seen it, I think it was only once and years ago. Rufus Sewell is on hand, I suspect as th

Movie thoughts 7-6-2020

I think I already knew all the information from the bonus features on my new Friday the 13th Blu-ray. I am still happy that I bought the Blu-ray, so I guess it worked out. I might give Fast and Furious presents Hobbs and Shaw another chance. I tried to re-watch recently but I lost interest. I hated at least one of the songs on the soundtrack and I think they should have used the original Time in a Bottle instead of that cover. Movies are being pushed back again. I am starting to think I won't be going to another movie in 2020 and that might mean that I will go over 8 months without going to a movie theater. I am okay with that. I miss seeing movies on the big screen but I don't want to be in a dark theater with people taking off their masks constantly to eat or drink right now. Is Hamilton a movie or a filmed play? I guess I will have an opinion after I see it. I did not feel up to this weekend, maybe next weekend. I have heard good things about it. I probably won't
